Taught by Tony Berg

Tai Chi is a healing and martial art based on the principles of Taoist philosophy.  It has appropriately been called a “moving meditation.”  The emphasis on slow, deep breathing and relaxed, rhythmic movements help one to develop a calm and focused mind. Physical benefits include: increased strength and flexibility,  better posture and body mechanics, improved balance, breathing, and cardiovascular health, enhanced digestion, stress reduction, reduced blood pressure and heart rate, among others. In more general terms, the practice of tai chi increases poise, well-being and longevity.

Tai chi is appropriate for all ages and all fitness levels. Each individual will practice the postures and movements in a manner opportune to his/her level of fitness, energy and state-of-mind. Each individual “starts where s/he is” and learns at his/her own pace.

I teach the Yang style of tai chi which is considered the most popular of the 5 traditional styles. The literal translation of “tai chi chuan” is “supreme ultimate fist,” but the health benefits of tai chi encompass much more than a fighting system.
